Special Needs Assistance Program

"Being disabled should not mean being disqualified from having access to every aspect of life." -Emma Thompson

Welcome to Special Needs Assistance Program!

Our Mission:  to enhance the quality of life for those with intellectual and physical disabilities through the funding of grants for specialized programs, camps, supplies, equipment, or resources.

Our Purpose:  to be able to provide financial assistance to families who have a loved one with an intellectual and/or physical disability for specialized, structured programs/camps which only accept private funding, specialized equipment to enhance abilities such communication and physical adaptations, specilized therapies and medical or other types of supplies that are not covered by insurance. Special Needs Assistance Program is dedicated to helping individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities become active members in our community by assisting families give their loved ones a better quality of life, enhance abilities and take new steps towards independence.

We envision a community where people with disabilities and their families have a network that supports independence, choice and personal success. We understand families could be receiving some support through the state SCL funds or private insurance. However, some specialized programs/camps, equipment, or needed supplies cannot always be purchased or funded through SCL funds or private insurance, so if this is the case our program can help your family member get what they need. SNAP wants to help bridge the financial gap many families of individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities experience. We want to assist in helping an individual attend an activity day program, camp, receive goods and/or services specially structured for individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Needs will be met through an application process and approved by a volunteer Board of Directors. Financial need must be demonstrated and applicants will be asked to provide information on income and assets. Grants will be awarded on a case by case basis, as funds are available and if no other funding source is available for the applicants. Each application will be reviewed carefully with consideration given to how the service or equipment can increase independence and quality of life.

The Special Needs Assistance Program is working closely this year with another local non-profit organization known as, Puzzle Pieces. Puzzle Pieces will be a facility serving individuals with disabilities through a structured activity day center for after school and full day needs. Special Needs Assistance Program will assist, financially, families who need Puzzle Pieces'  active day services by providing scholarships thru our application process to pay for the weekly service fees. The Board of Directors for these two non-profits consists of caring and concerned individuals personally touched by individuals with disabilities.

As family members of individuals with disabilities, we understand both the day-to-day struggles and the immense joys of the smallest successes in the lives of our children. By opening doors for our sons and daughters, we open doors for scores of other individuals in our community. Our loved ones deserve the best possible opportunities and care to ensure the best quality of life we can give them.
